Ornate Ghost Pipefish
Ornate Ghostpipefish are more at home in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea than in Sydney Harbour, but just like in the film ‘Finding Nemo’ they can get caught in the East Australian Current and end up on a one way trip south. About once every couple of years these exotic visitors will arrive in Sydney on their unexpected holiday and will stay around for the summer. They usually head to Chowder Bay in Mosman. We’re not sure why they choose Chowder Bay (although it has some great cafes and is close to the city).
Ornate Ghostpipefish are able to change colour to match their environment. If they are this spectacular in Sydney, just imagine what they look like in their normal surroundings.
